QED Teachers/Applicants

Quality Education by Design maintains a database of the finest teachers who are interested in working privately for our clients. Teachers referred by QED have been pre-screened by us to assure they meet our exacting standards of quality and have been trained to prepare them for the expectations of their new job. A QED-referred teacher will be certified and hold a college degree in either Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education. Having experience teaching in several academic subject areas is a plus. They will be experienced in working with students individually or on a small-group basis. In addition, our teachers must exhibit sensitivity to the privacy needs of the families with whom they will work and demonstrate the highest personal moral and professional standards. All teachers in the QED database must be willing to undergo a thorough background investigation if they are selected to teach in a family's home.
Teachers referred by QED do not work for us but instead are hired directly by our clients through our referral service. As teachers ourselves, we are committed to the fair treatment and just compensation of all teachers. Therefore, we do not charge teachers a fee for this service nor do we receive a percentage of their salary. Rather, a QED referred teacher will negotiate their salary or hourly rate directly with our clients. We believe truly excellent teachers are dramatically undervalued and encourage our clients to consider this fact in their negotiations. We strive to encourage a strong partnership between our clients and their teacher(s) and to foster a sense of openness and goodwill among all parties involved. As we are not an employer, we cannot offer medical insurance to teachers.
As educational consultants we are directly involved with the family and their teacher(s) throughout the entire year in planning curriculum, compiling reports and making educational decisions. It is essential that the teacher candidate be flexible in working with the student/family and that they maintain frequent contact with QED to assure our curricular guidelines are implemented in the home. Within this framework, a teacher is given a reasonable amount of flexibility in developing their own lesson plans to meet the needs of the student and the curriculum we provide. A typed weekly report to QED's directors is mandatory, and we will visit the family's home as often as needed to assure all goals are being met. All necessary curriculum materials are provided to our teachers.
Working hours are generally during the daytime -- the same as those of a traditional classroom teacher. For this reason, it is difficult for a QED teacher to hold a second full-time teaching job and work with QED on the side. Some QED teachers choose to work only certain days each week or only mornings or afternoons, and this type arrangement often works well for families who employ more than one teacher in their home; however, the working hours will likely be during the daytime, not an after-school job.
If you feel you have the educational background, experience and integrity required to be a Quality Education by Design teacher, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your resume and a cover letter to: Director@qedny.us with the words "Employment Application" written in the subject line. We are always interested in hearing from highly qualified candidates.
